The two-year associate degree in Fire Technology is designed for the advancement of professional firefighters. Courses are designed for persons who have completed the basic academy, as well as for other professionals in fire and safety-related fields. Students who successfully complete the prescribed program in fire technology will be eligible to receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. Attainment of the Associate of Applied Science degree does not result in Basic Firefighter Certification.
Firefighters who have completed a basic firefighter academy in Texas or those who have met certification requirements as set by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, including the National Fire Academy or the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association, may receive credit for this level of certification. A maximum of 18 college credit hours in Fire Technology may be awarded when an applicant has completed a minimum of any nine hours in the degree plan.

*Although not a requirement for this certificate, students are strongly encouraged to take HUDV 1100 during the first semester of enrollment.
