Paralegal Studies Certificate (Major Code 5828C)

Offered at the SPC Reese Center

The Paralegal Certificate Program is designed to introduce students to the paralegal profession. Students must compete 24 semester hours of paralegal studies courses. These courses are designed to provide the student with basic knowledge of the legal profession, law office procedures, legal terminology, court systems, legal document preparation, and procedural and substantive rules of law. To qualify for the Certificate of Proficiency, the student must complete a Capstone Experience in the final semester of the program.

Students who comlplete the certificate may choose to enter the Paralegal Studies associate degree program or seek entry-level employment as a legal office worker in a variety of business sectors, such as private law offices, governmental agencies, real estate companies, financial institutions, law enforcement agencies, corporations, and insurance companies.

Program advisor is Dr. Joseph W. Kline, professor of paralegal studies.
