The associate of applied science degree in Fire Technology is designed for the advancement of professional Texas Commission on Fire Protection certified firefighters. The Fire Administration prepares students to be competent administrators in the fire service. Students who complete this curriculum will possess the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes and behaviors necessary to work as fire administrators at the company-officer level and higher. Students who successfully complete the fire administration coursework and fifteen-hour general education requirement will be eligible to receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. Attainment of the Associate of Applied Science degree does not result in Basic Firefighter Certification or Advanced EMT Certification. To qualify for the A.A.S. degree, the student must complete a Capstone Experience in the final semester of the program. Texas commissioned Structural Firefighters may receive credit for the Basic Fire Academy series (FIRS 1301, FIRS 1407, FIRS 1313, FIRS 1319, FIRS 1203, FIRS 1323, FIRS 1329, and FIRS 1433) and other TCFP certifications once they have completed all other degree requirements.
