LVN and Paramedic to RN Bridging Transition Program, AAS

The Associate Degree Nursing program offers a bridging transition option for qualifying students who are Licensed Vocational Nurses and Licensed Paramedics who have at minimum 1 year of work experience under their current issued license. The course of study is comprised of 60 semester credit hours and is designed to prepare graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurse Licensure.  Upon successful completion of the bridging transition program articulated academic credit will be given for RNSG 1413 and RNSG 1441.

The ADN program is accredited by the following: the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, 3343 Peachtree Rd., NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, (404) 975-5000, and approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Program Admission Requirements The number of students admitted to the program is limited, therefore all prospective candidates who wish to be admitted should contact the Associate Degree Nursing program and request an admissions application packet. Applicants must submit a copy of their high school transcript or GED scores, an official copy of all college transcripts, and: Complete the requirements for admission to SPC. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program. Score satisfactorily on entrance examinations administered by the Testing Center. Admission to the program is determined by the Associate Degree Nursing Program Admission/ Academic Standards Committee. Applicants will be notified by letter of the committee’s action. Due to limited class numbers, some applicants who meet all the admission requirements may not be accepted. Students must apply each time they wish to be considered. All students applying to the ADN program must be TSI compliant.  Students must complete the required entrance TEAS and Critical Thinking Exams. Students may repeat Anatomy and Physiology courses no more than 3 times without passing otherwise will not be eligible for admission to the ADN program. All prerequisite and non-nursing courses must have a grade of C or better.

All students applying to the ADN program (generic and bridging transition program) will undergo a criminal background check and drug testing as required by the Texas Board of Nursing and partner affiliates. Any student wishing to enroll in the ADN program who has been convicted, adjudged guilty by a court, pleaded guilty, no contest or nolo contendre to any crime in any state, territory or country, whether or not a sentence was imposed, including pending criminal charges or unresolved arrests, must contact the Texas Board of Nursing prior to applying for admission to the program. This includes expunged offenses and deferred adjudications with or without prejudice of guilt. No student will be considered for the ADN program until deemed eligible for licensure by the Texas Board of Nursing. 

All students must have from the Texas Board of Nursing a “blue card” or a declaratory order prior to admission. The student must present a copy of LVN or Paramedic licensure to the ADN program with the completed application. Student acceptance into the bridging transition program will be conditional pending a negative drug screen. All students officially and conditionally accepted for admission into the ADN program will be required to undergo drug screening. Failure to submit to drug screening or having a positive drug screening will result in forfeiture of their admission into the program. The presence of an adulterant constitutes a positive drug screen.  Random and “for cause” testing will also be done throughout the program. Students accepted into the program will receive physical examination forms provided by the Nursing Department which must be completed and returned when they see their advisor. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (American Heart Association only) must be current and maintained throughout the Associate Degree Nursing program. Non-nursing courses may be taken before enrollment in nursing courses, but not later than sequentially required. You must have a minimum cumulative and prerequisite GPA at 2.7. All nursing courses must be passed with a “C” or better as indicated by the course.  All RNSG courses must be taken concurrently. 

The Associate Degree Nursing program reserves the right to change the curriculum and program policies as deemed necessary for the maintenance of a high-quality education.   Policies regarding bridging transition program, dismissal, probation, class and clinical attendance, liability insurance, grading, and readmission are available in the current Associate Degree Nursing Student Handbook. The program and courses within the program are subject to approval and changes mandated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, and the Texas Board of Nursing. The following curriculum meets all requirements for the Associate of Applied Science degree and for eligibility to apply to write the NCLEX-RN Exam.
